Grade 303 stainless steel is also known as 1.4305 type stainless steel. Grade 303 is the easiest to process among all austenitic stainless steels. The machinability properties of Grade 303 are due to the presence of sulfur in the steel element. Sulfur improves machining but also reduces corrosion resistance and toughness. Type 303 has lower corrosion resistance than Type 304, but the toughness is still as good as other austenitic grades.
